I’m kinda excited to see what the tuning world will do to this. It may not be the ideal stock Supra. But I can see this taking over the tuning scene in the next couple years.

Read that Toyota took BMWs engine and did some QA of their own in order to meet its high reliability standards. Lotus benefited from their relationship with Toyota making the Lotus Elise.

The designer of the Supra (same guy who designed the GT86) was already working on the Z4 with BMW long before the Supra was even announced. The collaboration just went further since Toyota was intrested in getting their feet wet in the sportscar department since the 86 did so well. That's literally it. The 2JZ-GTE was engineered by Yamaha, and they weren't doing anything with them after the catastrophe that was the 2ZZ-GE (it's okay, but not good, unless you mod it to death).

The engine it uses might be BMW but the build quality, which BMW isn't known for these days, is all due to Toyota telling BMW to get their shit together, which means better BMWs down the line as well. The B38 that powers the base Mini Cooper and i8, the three-pot version of the B58 (which powers the Supra), made the Top Ten Engines list around the same time Toyota started working on it with them.

The only problems it's going to have are the cheap transmission, and the fact that the front suspension is McPherson instead of wishbone like the older ones were. Most of the issues with the car come from BMW's hardheadedness.

If the Supra does well enough they might just give us a new Celica, or even an MR2.

The power #'s changed today, surprised your butt dyno didn't detect the power. Toyota low balled it like they did with a lot about this car. It's obvious they wanted a super tuner car. I say that it's going to be popular. Anyone wanna place a bet? Also I think you are wrong about it's future price. If you have a solid car that has a massive amount of tuner potential then in the future pristine stock examples will be quite rare. A reason to have an emergency trunk release could be so that if the solenoid burns out you can still open it to fix it. They sell carbon fiber trunks for many cars that come without a keyhole. What happens if you can no longer open it with a button? Cut it off? So yeah. Also, what if you have eaten super sized McDonald's your whole life, can you slip out of the front? I'd bet that regulations, or for repair reasons is why, either way it does serve a purpose that makes sense. Supra base price $50,920. Skyline GT-R base price $101,585. Again, I think you got it wrong. It also seems fairly obvious that you are insulting people from Virginia (I live on the west coast). This is the worst video I've seen you do. You don't know it all, so it's annoying to watch you pretend that you do. My Doug score on this video, 0.

There are two types of people when it comes to Supra:
                                                    1. You are obsessed about 2JZ passing every hypercar on the highway.
                                                    2. You buy whatever rolls new from the production line.

People who say that Toyota shouldn't have gone to BMW to work on the Supra never asked themselves some simple questions:
*Why did they choose BMW, and not a Japanese brand?*

Nissan: Why would they help? They've got the GT-R to make, why would they help make a new generation of its *biggest competitor?*
Honda: You would've complained that it was too electronic like the NSX. You already complain about this being too electronic.
Mitsubishi: They don't do sports cars now.
Subaru: They don't have anything that really captures the spirit of the Supra, and they probably wouldn't have accepted anyways. Toyota was probably pushing it with the BRZ/GT86, considering how under-the-thumb Subaru had to be. (Also, Toyota did make sure the Supra engine complied with their expectations/requirements, and treated BMW with the same under-the-thumb nature.)

And no, they couldn't just make one themselves. That would be vastly too expensive.

*Why a BMW engine, and not a joint project engine like the GT86/BRZ?*
Because the BMW engine is basically a modern 2JZ. Honestly they could've called it the 3JZ, and it would've been accurate. They're both:
                                                      1. Inline 6
                                                      2. Turbo
                                                      3. Reliable
                                                      4. VERY tunable
And again, Toyota didn't just slap the BMW engine in the Supra, they made sure it complied with what they wanted.

The Z4 almost died. The Supra almost didn't come back. The freaking MX-5 wouldn't have had the ND without FIAT. A manual transmission sports car is a sliver of a sliver of the market. Be happy they even MADE one. Then go buy a sports car because without purchases, they'll continue to die with fewer and fewer options.
